Transfers between your own accounts

Moving money is not spending. Here is how Seed pairs the two sides, and the one case where dropping a transfer on an expense item is exactly right.

A transfer is money moving between your own accounts: checking to savings, checking to brokerage, checking to a credit card. Seed excludes transfers from spending Insights and cashflow so you never double-count the same money.

Two sides, paired automatically

Every transfer has a leg leaving one account and a leg arriving in another. Seed pairs them after each bank sync, and a nightly sweep re-checks anything the sync missed. Credit card payments count as transfers too and are paired the same way.

Where each side shows up

  • The transfer-out side always stays on the Transfers page, opened from the Transfers card on the Forecast page.
  • The transfer-in side appears in New Transactions on the Forecast page until you match it. Until then the Transfers page shows an Unmatched placeholder on the receiving side.

What happens when you drop a transfer in

  • On the Funds Transferred item: neutral, no budget impact. This is a plain internal transfer.
  • On an income forecast item: counts as money arriving and fills that item's earned bar.
  • On an expense forecast item: counts as a payment toward that item and fills its spent bar. This is how a credit card or debt payment is tracked. If you budgeted a 500 dollar card payment, dropping the payment there fills it to 500 spent.

A payment is not a refund

Dropping a payment on an expense item does not reduce your spending. Real merchant refunds, which are not transfers, are what reduce spending.

Linking a transfer by hand

  1. 1Open one side of the transfer.
  2. 2Tap the Transfer action.
  3. 3In the Linked Transfer card, tap Add Transfer.
  4. 4Seed shows matching transactions on your other accounts: same amount, opposite direction, near the same date. Tap the correct one to pair them.

Manual links are permanent and are never overridden by automatic detection. To unmatch, swipe left on the pair card on the Transfers page and tap Remove. The transfer-in returns to New Transactions and can be re-matched later.
