Categorizing transactions automatically
Seed has exactly 12 categories, and a transaction gets its category from the forecast item it is matched to. Here is what Untracked means and how to clear it.
Seed uses exactly 12 categories, and they are Seed's own, not your bank's: Income, Savings, Investments, Housing, Food, Health, Transportation, Utilities, Subscriptions, Debt, Entertainment, and Other.
Where a category comes from
A transaction's category comes from the forecast item it is assigned to. Assigning a transaction to a forecast item is what gives it its category. That is the whole model, and it is why matching transactions matters so much.
What Untracked means
If a transaction is not assigned to a forecast item yet, Seed estimates a category from the bank's data so your charts are not empty. When there is nothing to estimate from, it shows as Untracked. Untracked is not a type of spending. It means Seed does not yet know what that money was for. The fix is to assign those transactions.
Fixing a wrong category
- Assign the transaction to the correct forecast item, which is the durable fix.
- Or edit it from the transaction detail screen.
